The Smokebubble Vaporizer

There’s not a lot really to say about the Smokebubble, other than the word vaporizer is probably a misnomer.  In reality, this device has more in common with the traditional hash-pipe.

The Smokebubble is simply a pipe enclosed in a clear borosilicate glass bubble.  To use the device         you simply place your smoking materials inside the glass bubble, and apply a heat source to the outside of the bubble. The resulting vapors are inhaled through the pipe.

There has been a lot of discussion recently regarding heat sources, with some commenting that using a butane lighter as a heat source has an adverse effect on the vapor flavor.  It’s difficult to be objective about this; butane certainly has a distinctive smell and our senses of smell and taste are so closely intertwined that it might be the aroma that’s unfavorably affected, rather than the flavor.  In the final analysis though, it doesn’t really matter, if your enjoyment is affected a solution needs to be found.

And solutions have been found; people have been very inventive when finding them! I’ve seen recommendations for hairdryers, ovens, candles, and immersion heaters amongst others.

One recommendation, that is intriguing, is that you simply use your Smokebubble as if it really is a traditional hash-pipe, that is, you burn your herbs in the bowl.  The problem here, of course, is that this method will take you back to inhaling unhealthy tars.  Or will it? Not necessarily.

In 2004, Wicked Roots – the people behind the wondrous Vapezilla, released the Phedor, a hybrid vaporizer.  Its hybrid description comes courtesy of the fact that this neat implement can be used to burn or to vaporize.  Because the Phedor is worthy of a review of its own, it will, of course, get one. But, for now, it’s sufficient to say that, if the vapor flavor is a problem for you, the Phedor ideal for use alongside the Smokebubble Vaporizer.

To use the Smokebubble, simply rinse out the glass bubble with water, place your salvia, marijuana, or whatever other herbs you might be using, inside, and then apply an external heat source, using your lighter for instance, to the bubble – ensuring that you keep the ball moving, otherwise your herbs might start to burn.

If you use the Phedor as your heat source, instead of applying the heat to the outside surface of the Smokebubble, you would hold the Phedor a little way from the herbs themselves.  The resulting vapor would then be inhaled as usual through the pipe.  No butane flavor and no nasty toxins to inhale.

Heat source problems aside, the Smokebubble Vaporizer is ideal, perhaps, for those who don’t use herbs very often or who are unsure if they would enjoy vaporizing and would like to try it out first.  It’s also the one to go for if you are on a limited budget.

Maintenance-wise, an occasional clean of the glass bubble is all that’s required.
