The Vapezilla
vaporizer is a hands free whip-based system.
On whip-based systems the user simply grinds
his weed, dumps it out on the table. There
is a whip like a vacuum that you suck up
herbs while inhaling it. When you are done,
you just need to point the whip to the trash
and exhale.
Oh, wow! We are talking
class here; with its gloss black finish,
this vaporizer looks like a piece of
high-end hifi equipment. Yet, it doesn’t
cost the earth. Manufactured by Wicked
Roots, the Vapezilla is just one of a whole
range of vaporizers they offer, all of which
are aimed at the, shall we say, more
discerning client. In fact, the
manufacturer’s site features testimonials by
reggae artists of note, in support of this
claim.
This high-end (pun intended!)
vaporizer was also voted the High Times
Cannabis cup of 2004 for the best vaporizer
around. Every review on this vape mentions
how flavourful the vapor is when compared to
the vapor produced by other vaporizers.
Particular comments seem to revolve around
comparisons between the Vapezilla and the
Volcano. Apparently, the flavour with the
Vapezilla is sharper and less muted that
with the Volcana.
Design and function wise, the
Vapezilla is completely digital, with the
exception of the temperature control – the
only manual control on the whole thing. The
heating element is ceramic and rated at 400w
and is insulated with Pyrex™
Pyrex™ is also used for the
whip, and Wicked Roots claim that it’s the
thickest Pyrex™ whip in the industry; in
fact it is a medical grade piece of
equipment. The chassis itself is
manufactured from solid aluminum. In fact,
so sure are they of the quality of their
device, that Wicked Roots offer a lifetime
warranty on labor and support and a
twelve-month warranty on the vaporizer
itself. Be careful though and don’t be
tempted to open the machine to have a look
inside, which will invalidate your warranty.
As far as use is concerned,
the Vapezilla is effortless. To start, turn
the vape on and set the temperature – it
will take between three and five minutes to
reach the correct heat. Whilst you’re
waiting, grind your herbs and load them into
the whip. To load the whip with ease,
simply place the end into the herb supply
and suck! Easy eh? The recommended volume
of herb is 3mm to 6mm or, if you’re British
and still struggling with metric,
1/8
to ¼ inches.
The heating chamber is
located on the right front of the Vapezilla,
and this is where you insert the whip. When
you’ve done that, inhale.
When your material is
exhausted, take the whip from the vaporizer
and put the end into some sort of pot to
collect the trash and then, just blow. The
used herb will come out of the whip and into
the trash-pot and you can reload.
When you insert or remove
your whip from the Vapezilla, do not use a
twisting action, as this can damage the
glass. Replacement whips, whilst easily
available, cost $25 because of their high
quality. Replacement heating elements are
$75 a throw. The moral here is to be very
careful with your Vapezilla!
The Vapezilla is a very
high-class device, both in looks and in
action, and I think that the $400 price tag
($425 if you want a 220v model) is warranted
because of the highly specified working
components. And let’s not forget that it
shouts ‘I was expensive!’ I like that in a
device, in a restaurant, in a car, in a man…
